Back in 2012 I did review quite a fair few Android gaming tablets. We’ve come a long way since then with the latest Ambernic devices. Still we could properly game on Android over a decade ago.
This previously thought lost video was originally uploaded on january 8th 2013 right after a new firmware was released fixing a fair few issues.
Information on the Archos GamePad:
The original Archos GamePad was a gaming tablet developed by Archos and released in December 2012 in Europe and February 2013 in the US. Here are some key features:
Operating System: Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
Display: 7-inch capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 1024×600 pixels
Processor: Dual-core Rockchip RK3066 @ 1.6 GHz
Memory: 1 GB RAM and 8 GB internal storage (expandable via microSD up to 64 GB)
Physical Controls: Dual analog sticks, gaming keys (X, Y, A, B), and shoulder buttons, similar to the PlayStation Vita
Connectivity: Wi-Fi, Mini-HDMI, USB 2.0
Camera: 0.3 MP front camera
Dimensions: 229.8mm x 118.7mm x 15.4mm, weighing 300 grams
The GamePad was designed specifically for gaming, with a special mapping software that converted touch controls into physical controls for Android games. However, it received mixed reviews due to issues like the initial firmware being buggy, poor battery life, low screen quality, and uncomfortable controls.
