**Millennium Soldier: Expendable**, also known simply as **Expendable** in North America, is a run-and-gun video game developed by Rage Software. It was initially released for Microsoft Windows in 1999 and later ported to the Dreamcast and PlayStation consoles. A remake titled **Expendable: Rearmed** was released for Android in 2012.

In the game, you play as a “Millennium Soldier”, a super-soldier clone created to combat a hostile alien race that has conquered most of the galaxy. The gameplay involves navigating through various levels, collecting
upgrades and weapons, and battling bosses. The game supports both single-player and multiplayer modes.

The Windows, Dreamcast and Playstation versions received mixed reviews, with critics praising the graphics but noting limited appeal and repetitive gameplay.

The Ports:
The Windows port sports tank controls which really feel
old fashioned these days.

The Playstation port uses the dual shock analog controller but it does it in a very weird way. The analog stick is not used in a Commando run and shoot in the direction you point in but somehow has some rudimentary tank controls lingering in the control scheme resulting in the game NOT letting you move absolute left or right but rather diagonally only – which is weird. I guess they expect players to use the separate strafe buttons on the triggers to move left and right.

The Dreamcast port basically has the same controls but then properly working Commando style run and shoot in the same direction you point the analog stick at with a separate button to strafe.

The Android remake brought the game to a modern audience with updated controls. TWIN STICK ANALOG CONTROLS YAY!
This is the control scheme the game has been begging for ever since the Playstation release.

The sad part is that only earlier versions of Android seem to like this game – so you’re best off playing this on an older phone or better yet one of these older Android consoles that use an older version of Android. It seems 6.x and below often work best.

I’ve sideloaded this on the OUYA successfully. It also runs great on the Nexus 7, GPD-XD.
