Yikes, the 60th? I still remember the 30th Dr Who Anniversary quite well, I was studying at the University back then. Thoroughly embedded in retro and modern PC and console gaming already back then!
“Doctor Who” is a long-running British science fiction television series that first aired in 1963. It was created by Sydney Newman, C. E. Webber, and Donald Wilson. The show revolves around the adventures of the Doctor, a Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey who travels through time and space in the TARDIS, a time machine that looks like a British police box on the outside but is much larger on the inside.
The Doctor is centuries-old and has the ability to regenerate when mortally wounded, allowing them to change their appearance and personality. This regeneration ability has allowed multiple actors to portray the character over the years. The Doctor is often accompanied by companions, humans and sometimes aliens from various time periods and planets. Together, they explore different historical eras and distant planets, facing a wide array of alien species, villains, and challenges. The Doctor’s primary goal is to right wrongs, solve problems, and protect innocent life throughout time and space.
A recurring iconic arch-nemesis are the Daleks, a race of cyborg aliens bent on universal conquest, and the Cybermen, cybernetically enhanced humans who seek to assimilate others into their ranks. These iconic villains often pose a significant threat to the Doctor and the universe.
The episodes have quite a fair bit of imaginative storytelling, social commentary, and blend science fiction with historical drama and whimsical humor. It has a dedicated fan base and has become a significant part of (British)(World)(Nerd) popular culture.
