Screamer Rally and the Screamer game on MS-DOS were solid racing games on the PC which were produced on the virge of 3D acceleration becoming more mainstream and accessible on the PCs of the era. Screamer was the ‘Ridge Racer’ of MS-DOS. Screamer Rally was an arcadey Rally game and it never made it to the PlayStation but it seems the idea to possibly bring Screamer Rally to the PlayStation got solidified in a prototype that was produced and can be found as a forgotten remnant floating around the internet.
It’s quite fascinating to imagine what Screamer and Screamer Rally would have been like on the PlayStation console. Here’s a glimpse at what might have been the early first steps of Screamer Rally on PlayStation. Many unreleased games exist. Some in far more advanced states than this prototype, some even just shelved. I can’t imaging what it must have been for the developers who poured their heart and soul into these games pulling long hours only to have a game shelved in a just about finished state! Ouch!
No then this prototype is much more easier to stomach. Nowhere near a real game – a polished proof of concept not much more. But fascinating still.
