R4: Ridge Racer Type 4 (known as Ridge Racer Type 4 in Europe) was developed and published by Namco for the PlayStation in 1998. This is the 4th game in the series. It has been re-released on the PS4 and PS5 and is playable through the Sony provided emulator.

Type 4 is the first Ridge Racer series game on the PlayStation to use analog controls and Gouraud shading on the polygons. So it controls and looks great compared to the previous incarnations. For me this game brings out the best in the PlayStation and lifts it above many other of the games on the platform.
