Sega Rally is a series of arcade racing games that ranks high up on my list of favourite arcade racers. This and many other Sega arcade racing games. I’ve enjoyed various iterations this game on the Saturn, PC, Dreamcast, Playstation 2, Playstation 3 and eventually Xbox360.
The Online Arcade game found on PS3 and XBox360 is very similar to this arcade version. The PC port of the previous game Sega Rally Revo is getting quite old and has issues with frame pacing and can be prone to micro stuttering. It takes a lot of tweaking to get it to run nicely.
Sega did a lot of things right in their later arcade racing cabinets – would love to have easy access to a Sega Rally 3, Outrun2, Outrun2 SP, Crazy Taxi cabinet but alas that won’t ever happen. And that’s allright. We can always spin up one of the discs on the consoles or run this game on TeknoParrot (Emulator).
Any additional pixelization and mpeg artifacting is courtesy of YouTube’s default 1080p-codec in combination with what Davinci Resolve is doing to video game footage the last couple of versions. Mind you it still is a lot better than the post-stamp GIFs, FLC and AVI files we had to deal with back in the day. 😉 Enjoy!
