🕹️SPACE MEGAFORCE / Super Aleste (スーパーアレスタ, Sūpā Aresuta)
📖 A shmup developed by Compile and published by Toho in 1992 on the famous 16 bit Nintendo Console the SuperFamicom and the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). It also got a European PAL release that same year. The lead designer was Takayuki Hirono. The music was composed by Keiji Takeuchi, Akiyoshi Nagao, Katsumi Tanaka.
It is part of the Aleste series of shmups. The Aleste series covers many different platforms, including Sega 8 and 16 bit platforms and also the MSX.
Gameplay:
The player controls a spaceship through different levels with a major apponent at the end. So it features proper boss-fights. There is a weapon-system allowing the player to increase strength but also select different power ups enable different weapons.
Story:
The Japanese, European/US versions feature different back-storylines, the gameplay is the same though.
Version to play:
The Japanese version as it has more content than the European and American versions. The Japanese version has different art on the options & game over screen. The ending is about twice as long and tells the player about the mystery behind the enemies that were faced. The harder the difficulty that is set the more information regarding the nature of the alien invasion is shared with the gamer. The names of the levels and the end-bosses are all different and some different sound samples were used.
Score 7/10; it seems easy but is in fact quite difficult to master.
