Retroplays: Vectorman (Genesis/MD)

Okay! So I did have another idea to do for today! I lost the narration again… but it was too good and I knew I couldn’t recreate it as good, but I played good so I decided to still use this. I will instead type all the stuff I wanted to say about it here, below. This is going to be long:

So to start off with, this is an amazingly good, fun, challenging and impressive (for the time of course) side-scrolling action/platformer shooter game, also an exclusive for the SEGA Genesis/MD, as well as Vectorman 2. This came out in 1995, pretty much at the end of the GenMeg’s life really and it shows with how impressive it looks, plays and sounds.

The Rotoscope visuals really are impressive and interesting, as well as give it a unique look. Gameplay is smooth and responsive and very fun with many different power-ups and different things Vectorman can change into from items you collect from destroying TV screens as you see me do constantly in this. I also want to mention there is a story of sorts in this and the sequel, but do you really care what it is? It takes place in the future, someone is doing something bad, Vectorman wants to stop them to save people and himself, the story in a nutshell really, nothing you haven’t encountered before I assure you, its the rest of this game that makes it awesome.

The game isn’t without its faults of course, it has a stupid time limit gimmick, which if you have watched me even for a short time, you know I HATE that crap unless its a racing game or its counting up, for how long its taking you to clear a level. It sucks. Luckily though, for the most part it gives you more than enough time to clear a level with plenty to spare if you have issues, not in many other levels. You can rarely find items in TVs to increase your time, but not often enough in some levels that really need it, like the horrible level I show last in this video, its the worst level in the game for many reasons.

The game, while challenging for sure and fair on any difficulty, spikes randomly and some bosses are just absolutely bullshit and frustrating, but not impossible. This is a game that gets easier the more you play it and spend time with it. I have been playing it for many years, but haven’t in a few months, but overall I still do really good, deaths are inevitable in this game really.

The music just like the visuals and gameplay is just as great! This game also has a sound test option in the Options menu 🙂

I really love this game, I like the first the most, but the second one is great too, I just don’t care for certain things in that one over this one is all, its not because this is the first one of them or the first I played of them for the reason I like it I assure you lol. I got this when it was new, same with the second one, both are great and I highly recommend both without a doubt. While they aren’t the cheapest Genesis/MD games for sure, they are far from the most expensive.
