[AMSTRAD CPC] After Burner / Afterburner – Longplay (Part 1 of 3)
Xyphoe
Longplay through to the end of the classic arcade game AfterBurner of the home conversion onto the Amstrad CPC. Part 1 of 3.
They’ve done an excellent job converting this onto a humble 8-bit, retaining as much as possible from the arcade original. The Amstrad version is fast and gorgeous looking, and great fun to play.
I used to be rubbish at this, until I discovered how to work the thrust/afterburner controls – its essential for surviving multiple missile attacks and once mastered you’ll soon progress. Although saying that, I went a bit nuts on the later levels and kept running out of rockets! Doh!
Slight niggles are –
1) the machine gun is just stuck on auto fire … but if you’ve ever played the real arcade game you just kept this button down permanently anyway!
2) Impossible to hit planes in the distance with the machine gun, only when they’re flying close to you
3) The small playing area … but to me, this makes things a little more fun, challenging and in-yer-face.
Enjoy!
