[AMSTRAD CPC] Arachnophobia – Longplay & Review
Xyphoe
Review and longplay / walkthrough for “Arachnophobia” on the Amstrad CPC!
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!
Arachnophobia was a horror/comedy/thriller released in 1990 from producer Steven Spielberg, a South American spider hitches a ride to small town America where it procedes to mate with a local spider and produce deadly offspring which decimates the town.
A year later Disney Software decided to release a game based on the movie, with Titus software publishing the Amstrad CPC version which appears to be disk and 128k memory only. They wisely decided to base the game around one of the side characters in the movie where you take the part of Delbert the local exterminator – and it’s your job to clear 7 towns of spiders before tackling ‘The General’ in a final (and unfortunately bug ridden) final level back in South America. The game is obviously influenced by the 1984 Ghostbusters game – you have top-down map screen view of the city/town, drive around and choose the building, then clear the location of the pest in a side-on section! Somewhere in the town is the queen spider you have to kill, kill her and you can move on to the next town. Every house has a spider egg sack, destroy it and the compass (or Bugometer) points in the direction of the house the queen is in. Collect a gas can and some matches and your bug spray weapon gets upgraded to a flame thrower!
This is very rare game, not many copies were seen in the shops at the time and even harder to find on eBay these days! It’s actually a pretty decent game, but unfortunately the final level is impossible to complete… but with a little help I’ve found a way….
