Retro Waffle – Amstrad GX4000: The Facts

I talk about the failed Amstrad GX4000 console from 1990. This 8-bit system has received a lot of negative talk against it over the years, so I set the record straight. It deservedly flopped yes, but not because of the machine itself…

Contrary from false belief, the console did not blow up on it’s own. That was mainly due to user error by putting the wrong power supply in the wrong socket. The AC adapters were a bit fragile and unreliable however, and just like other cart systems, a ‘killer’ cart could show up. I have had 4 working machines that lasted years. One outlasting two PS2’s.

CORRECTION: I accidentally say that the console is a stripped down 6128+, whereas I meant to say a 464+. Oops!

Also, my collection has now grown, so the games listed are not so many.

Apologies for the quality of this video, It was my first in front of camera and used the wrong settings. Again, Oops!

ASIC features – Sprites, Soft Scrolling, DMA use, Interrupts.
