Waddup to my Peoples!
Welcome back to RETRO CRUNCH, your nostalgia news show that is all about Current Pop Culture, Movies, Music, and Games that relates to all things 70s, 80s, and 90s!
Were going to start off the show with some Retro Tech news for a change with the news that the MP3 player WINAMP that led the Mp3 revolution in the late 80s is now available in your favorite browsers.
It looks to be a version from around 1999, back when the famous MP3 sharing site NAPSTER was becoming hugely popular.
WinAmp in its hay day of the late 90s and early 2000’s set the standard for which future MP3 player software would strive to become.
Ill link to the WinAmp project so if you have a bunch of mp3’s on your desktop you can drag them into the browser and check out what it was like to be a mp3 loving 90s kid.
Next up, in some gaming news, if you loved PC games from the 80s and 90s, your going to love to find out that you can now play more than 2500 old games right in your browser, thanks to the Internet Archive.
With games like Wolfenstein 3D, Oregon Trail, the original Sim City, and one of my favorites..
Space Quest I, there are TONS of great games for those RETRO PC game lovers to spend years playing.
Ill put a link to the archive for you guys in the description section down below.
Then on to some RETRO TV and MOVIE news!
First up, is that AMAZON is developing a Conan The Barbarian TV series based on Robert E. Howards 1932 fantasy series that was published in Weird Tales Magazine.
Conan was then again popularized in 1982 and 84 by Arnold Swartzenneger, who portrayed him in 1982’s Conan The Barbarian and again in 1984’s Conan the Destroyer.
And if you havent seen these 2 movies, they are fun to watch and great arnold flix back when he was first starting to act.
Then our next news is that V, the cult sci-fi series from 1983 through 1985 is coming back as a big screen movie, according to DigitalSpy.com.
V the series was hugely popular in the 80s and we even eventually saw a remake of the series in 2009 that lasted 2 seasons.
According to the original shows creator Kenneth Johnson, this movie will be the first of a trilogy and that the new films will tell the full epic tale in the manner he had always envisioned.
I keep hearing mixed news on how popular V really was or is, but based on the fact that both series got cancelled pretty early on, im not so sure that a V movie is going to do all that well.
Then, On this day in History! February 9th, 1971 – Satchel Paige became the first Negro League player to be voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Satchel was arguably the best pitcher in baseball history, but by the time he got invited to play Major League Baseball, he was near the end of his prime.
If youd like to watch a great 80’s movie about Satchel, go check out “Don’t Look Back”.
It stars Luis Gossett Jr. as Satchel Page and is a pretty good movie and history lesson on this great Baseball legend.
