My Study in 360 degrees – April 1st 2016 – My First Theta S 360 video [VR]
Lactobacillus Prime
Today I picked up a Ricoh Theta S 360 double fish eye-lensed camera that is capable of making great 360 photos (it excels at that!) and 1080p 360 degree videos. Now the latter is not as nice as the photos as the 1080p of the sensor is used to cover the complete sphere of one’s surroundings. Normally a camera captures with a 48 degree to 100 degree field of view so resolution will suffer a little.
Now making a 360 video is quite a bit different from making a video with a regular camera as the viewer gets to choose what to focus on – although the camera does seems to default to an angle away from the person recording the footage. It defaults to share the same view the person recording the video has. This makes it great for out and about videos. For VLOGS/BLOGS one has to take into account that the image the video defaults to is away from the side of the camera with the status indicators etc.
Uploading the video to YouTube requires converting the two fish eye images to a 16:9 navigable video with metadata included so that YouTube actually recognizes this as a 360 VR video.
Anwways, here’s my first vid! Enjoy!
