AMD Radeon RX480 vs Nvidia 950GTX – Final Thoughts Including A Benchmark
Lactobacillus Prime
In this video I am comparing my Nvidia 950GTX 2Gb vs AMD Radeon 480RX 8Gb on my i5 3.2Ghz, 8Gb, 64-bit Windows 10 system, I am running a synthetic bench mar GFXBench that gives me the most consistent numbers across several different platforms.
The performance definitively is there, sadly stability, power- and compatibility issues with older games and emulators isn’t. It’s loud and hot – something that just doesn’t go well in my systems.
The Nvidia GTX 950 isn’t a bad card, but it is getting long in the tooth and it won’t run Forze 6 beta properly. Stutters like crazy. But I’ll stick with that for a bit, but it won’t do VR and the RX480 is VR ready – one of the main attractions of this card for me as well as the possibility to double the performance into something in the neighborhood of a Nvidia for a fraction of the cost.
Getting into VR would have been less of a financial drain. I won’t stumble into VR for now, nor will I upgrade my 950 GTX, the naming conventions are off on the Nvidia cards as the 950 GTX by no means compares to the 960GTX or 960GTX, it’s far slower even though in ‘numbers’ it looks close.
The 1060 or 1070 Nvidia seems to be the card to go for for me from all the feedback I’ve received on the previous video. Thanks for that y’all. I gained a lot of knowledge and heard from your perspectives.
