Mark Plays… Tubular Worlds PC vs Amiga (PAL)
Lactobacillus Prime
A couple of years back I did a video on Tubular Worlds but couldn’t get the Amiga disks working and this time I got a set of working discs (ECS version, there’s also an AGA version) so it is time for a nice comparison of both ports.
A nice R-type/Nemesis/Gradius like shoot’m up for PC and Amiga systems. Very nice smooth scrolling and a wonderful use of the 256 colours of the VGA palette. It spreads around 4 levels (worlds) which are actually 4 parts of the final exam that you have to go through as a space cadet. It has an easy to use weapons upgrade system comparable. I particularly like the soundtrack and great sound FX using the wonderful Soundblaster and FM synthesis. On the PC the game seems to run a bit smoother than on my Amiga although I must say the Amiga triumphs the PC in the sound department.
The game is controlled through either mouse, joystick or keyboard.
