Last weekend I went to EGX, an expo here in the UK.
I got to play loads of great games and meet some of the developers. The first game we saw was one I’ve been following on twitter. a really cool racing game that mimics the style of Sega’s Virtua Racer. Called Racing Apex. I didnt manage to get a go as it was quite busy but it looks great and very smooth!
There was a lot of really cool looking indie games! Another one I payed in this section was a strange game about throwing your kid around.. yeah. I don’t know either..
After that we made out way over to Team 17, where they were showing off a lot of games. One that got my attention was the Switch title, Yokus adventure. It plays like a modern take on Sonic Spinball with a bit of Billy Hatcher thrown in. It looked and played great and it’s defitely one I’m going to add to my list of Switch games to get!
Also in the Team 17 booth I got to have a quick multiplayer session on Worms. Apart from not being able to get used to the controls I had a good time with it.
Next we went to queue up to play Mario Oddessy! I was so excited to try this and I was not disappointed. The controls took a bit of getting used to as I don’t think the analog stick was completely collaborated correctly. Aprt from this though the demo was great! I had a choice of two staged, either New Donk City or the Desert. I chose New Donk as the leel and had fun just wandering around, jumping on buildings and then went into the first challenge. Finding musicians for pualine’s band. The demo was over all too soon though and definitely left me wanting more!
The game I playted after that was Sonic Forces. This didn’t leave such a good impression. I’m a huge fan of sonic games, both 2D and 3D and have played every game in the series to this point. To say the controls felt a little off would be an understatement. Just look at how hard i’m finding making this simple jump.. The demo was split into three distict gameplay styles. 3D, 2D – a boss fight, and custom character. Suffice to say I wasn’t too pleased with my time on Sonic Forces.
There’s always a lot of Indie games at EGX but this year seemed to especially focus on them, whcich is fine by me! There was a lot of very intresting gaemes on display. One that caught my attentioin was a camera based game in which the player has to use the exposure settings on the camera to solve puzzles in the real world.
I also managed to hand out a few Super Donuts business cards to the developers which was great!
