Gigantic Army Nintendo Switch True Retro Gaming Homage
Old Style Gaming
Hey guys OSG here and this time I’m doing something completely different and new for my channel.
A while ago Phillipe from a games development company called Josh Prod contacted me and asked me to review a Nintendo switch game that he had developed.
Now as I’ve said I don’t normally do “new” games but I was intrigued by Josh Prod because I knew that they develop new games for Sega Dreamcast and Sega Saturn so I agreed to take a look if I could also get my hands on Flashback for the Dreamcast and also did some beta testing on a new fighting game for the Saturn that was in development
The game is Gigantic Army and it was released back in February, I played it as soon as it was available and was blown away at how much of a retro feeling it had. Now I have a capture card I am able to share it on my channel and complete my obligation to Phillipe
The game really pays homage to 16-bit era mech shooters such as Cybernator, Metal Warriors, etc but for me it has a real feel of Metal Slug
It’s set in the 21st century and Earth is at war with the Ramulons – an alien race determined to stop humanity’s advance into space.
Mankind’s war against the Ramulons has reached the planet Ramulon itself and it is now down to YOU to pilot the ‘GMR-34 SALADIN’ – a Manned Combat Robot – and take on the Ramulon army. Customize your arsenal of explosive, projectile and plasma weapons, and combine them with melee attacks, thrusters and shield to take the fight to the enemy and end the conflict!
The game is so addictive with awesome retro arcade stylings, slick animation, superbly detailed character and stage design,
I love the moves that your character can do with shields, flight, special weapons etc.
The enemies are also really well designed and the mid/end bosses are truly well thought out as you will see
Features of this game are
• Six stages of intense mech-shooting action!
• Twelve mid and end level bosses of gargantuan proportions to take down!
• Different difficulty modes which is a good this as my 8 year old really loves playing this game and we all know how hard it is to satisfy kids
• Customizable weapons load-out to suit your play style!
• Dash, thrusters and shield give your mech satisfying manoeuvrability and defensive options!
My rating for this game is 9/10 for the great retro looks, kickass soundtrack and sheer adictability (is that even a word….well it should be) If you have a switch and you like this genre I suggest you give this a try …it’s also available on steam too
Like I said this isn’t my normal content but it’s something that I may cover going forward if the games are “retro” enough
Let me know your thoughts on this game and the review in the comments below
In the meantime enjoy the rest of the gameplay …this is OSG signing out
