Checking out how the RPCS3 PlayStation 3 emulator is getting along. I am booting Ridge Racer 7 and try to play it for a bit to see how things run.

🧐 What is this Ridge Racer 7 game?
Ridge Racer 7 is an arcade-style racing game developed and published by Namco Bandai Games. Released as a launch title for the PlayStation 3 in 2006, it is the seventh main installment in the Ridge Racer series. The game is known for its high-speed drift racing mechanics, which allow players to execute dramatic drifts around corners. It features 22 courses and a variety of game modes, including a career mode and online multiplayer.

One of the standout features of Ridge Racer 7 is its extensive customization options. Players can modify their cars with different parts and tuning options to enhance performance and aesthetics. The game also includes a nitrous system, which adds an extra layer of strategy to races. Despite its focus on arcade-style gameplay rather than realism, Ridge Racer 7 rewards skillful driving and offers a thrilling racing experience.

🧐 What is RPCS3?
RPCS3 is a free and open-source PlayStation 3 emulator and debugger, developed in C++ for multiple operating systems including Windows, Linux, macOS, and FreeBSD. It has been in development since 2011 and is currently the only emulator capable of running commercial PlayStation 3 games, with over 2,000 titles considered playable. The emulator also supports the PS3’s internal PlayStation 1 emulator, allowing users to play PlayStation Classics digital re-releases. The emulator doesn’t allow for booting PlayStation One games directly – yet.

The primary goal of RPCS3 is to accurately emulate the PlayStation 3’s hardware and software through reverse engineering and community collaboration. It requires a powerful gaming PC to run effectively (I’ve gotten it to work on an AMD FX8350 (made a video on that) and it loves CPU cores and a fast CPU. It offers a way to experience PS3 games on modern PC hardware. The project is continuously updated, with its source code available on GitHub for those interested in contributing to its development
