Xbox Live as we know it today on the XboxOneX consoles originated on the original Xbox console way back in 2004. On May 11th 2004 Xbox Live Arcade was announced at Microsoft’s E3 Press Conference and it launched in November that year.

The XBLA Disk could be ordered on Microsoft’s website and like the old Netflix the disc was sent in the mail which contained a free version of MsPacMan Arcade. The second big distribution was that it came on the same disc as the Forza Motorsport game as well as on cover discs for various Xbox magazines.

The service started out with 6 games and eventually offered 12 games – it was possible to buy additional games with a credit card after one downloaded trial versions of the game. This is very similar to how the XboxLive Arcade flourished on the XBox360.

Here I play the original Mutant Storm twin stick shooter, sequels Mutant Storm Reloaded and Mutant Storm Empire were released on later Xbox generations. I am a huge fan of twin stick shooters and this is quite a good one – albeit a little psychedelic. One really does get in the zone.
