Emulated PS2 On A 2015 Old Fart PC – (PCSX 1.7.5139)(Windows10)

#pcsx2 #PS2 #emulator

I wanted to see if an old fart mini PC from 2015 with a 4th gen i7 with integrated HD4600 graphics would be able to cope with the latest Playstation 2 emulator. Well for many games it actually did.

I captured the footage with OBS and edited it on the same rig with Davinci Resolve (I had to seek out version 16 as the newer versions would not work with the integrated Intel HD4600 GPU anymore – due to OpenGL/CL issues.

The only real thing that lets this small form factor Lenovo Thinkcentre PC down is the fact that it has an Intel HD4600 GPU as it hasn’t kept up with OpenCL/OpenGL/Vulkan on Windows.

The HD Graphics 4600 is an integrated graphics solution by Intel, built on the 22 nm process, and based on the Ivy Bridge GT2 graphics processor, the device supports DirectX 11.1. It features 128 shading units, 16 texture mapping units, and 2 ROPs.

It supports some multi media codecs in hardware, but Davinci Resolve
18 will not work with it anymore, you need to install an older version 16 to be able to run that at all.

Hardware codec support
h264: Decode / Encode
AV1: No
h265 / HEVC (8 bit):No
h265 / HEVC (10 bit):No
VP8: No
VP9: No
VC-1:Decode
AVC: Decode / Encode
JPEG:Decode

It does offer decent performance with OBS capturing the footage provided the CPU isn’t hammered too much with other tasks. And even H264 1080p video editing with YT as a target is possible albeit with an older version of Davinci Resolve.

Handbrake
Davinci Resolve 16
VLC
Audacity
OBS
Windows10 64bit
