MS-DOS gaming and early 3D Windows9x gaming actually works quite well on DOSBox-X when using the Voodoo 3Dfx support it offers.
Installing Windows98SE was very easy. And the Windows98 environment provides a decent MS-DOS gaming environment with Solid SB16 (or GUS if you want) and it can even provide GM Roland sound in MS-DOS and DOS games like Hexen, Heretic, Doom. Of course OPL2/3 FM synth is also possible for the more generic audio experience most users had with DOS-Games.
Host system: MSI-6L mini PC (Ryzen7 5700G, 32Gb DDR4, Windows 11, OBS, Davinci Resolve 18.xx)
DOSBox-X 2024.03.01 (sdl2 Windows)
Windows98SE , DirectX 7, 8, 8.1 and 9c installed
D3D HW, OpenGL, Glide supper with newest Voodoo1 drivers
3DMark’99 (Windows9x)
Heretic (DOS)
Hexen 1.0 (DOS)
Doom (DOS)
