Both Virtual box and VMware have been fitted with SoftGPU and had their specific sound drivers installed. On their own they run well enough, but side by side af the same time? The computer does seem to have it far easier running hardware virtualization than running a software emulating performing many of the things that the virtualized machine can leave to the hardware itself.
The 2 core 4 thread i5 Lattitude E5250 managed to have two instances of Windows98 in their own different environments running simultaneously while at the same time recording the footage with OBS…. WTF?
No sound skipping like in the full emulated PCem or 86Box, far less overhead to contend with with virtualization.
It’s weird how single core performance and multi core performance turns out on an emulated computer (with the code running on a software emulated CPU) vs a hardware virtualized one with the actual CPU actually running the code within the virtual machine in the latter and using the GPU for video. It would be so nice if you could add up all that parallel processing power do boost a single task and make emulation more perfect. But alas.
