Sid Meier’s Civilization II is one of the greatest and most influential gaming sequels ever made, and Sid Meier didn’t actually have too much to do with it. As incredible as the original Civ was, this game was in many ways the one that set out the future of the series, and made sure it was going to be around forever. This video examines the many reasons behind it’s greatness — the genius of Brian Reynolds, his first steps forward with Colonization, how trouble at MicroProse allowed his team to operate under the radar, the various follow-ups and scenario packs, and — of course — the almighty Multimedia High Council.
