Package: Cavern Fighter (Colecovision) by Electric Adventures & Behind The Scenes Beta Test Footage

I got a package – it’s from my good mate Tony Cruise aka Electric Adventures. He’s been developing Cavern Fighter for the Colecovision console and I was play/beta testing it. I got a special prototype release of the game. I show that in this video and will include never seen before behind the screens beta test/play test footage that was used in testing the game. Mind you this is footage of the game in early stages of development and does not necessarily represent the final gameplay.

The footage shown here was mostly captured from various emulators testing the game. The game was also tested on real PAL Colecovision hardware with a USB 128 Flash card, MiST and MiSTer FPGA Colecovision PAL/NTSC implementations.

00:05:51 – 1st test: SGM Colecovision version February 24th 2020
00:08:49 – 2nd test: SGM Colecovision version February 25th 2020
00:20:41 – 3rd test: Standard Colecovision version May 12th 2020
00:34:33 – 4th test: Standard Colecovision version May 14th 2020

So Tony’s new game Cavern Fighter for the original un-expanded ColecoVision was 30 Years in the making. It is a conversion of the last title he was working on for the Spectravideo and MSX, that never got released. It is of course heavily inspired by one of Tony’s favourite arcade games, Scramble. It has six different stages and three difficulty levels, giving every player a reasonable** challenge.
** Tony style reasonable = Touch as nails, but fair!

It really pushes the original hardware to the line, Tony was literally down to the last couple of bytes of Ram left. Tony has made a nice play through on real hardware to give everyone a decent look at the game play, you can check it out here:

The game will eventually be available to purchase from the CollectorVision website
