I saw Tony aka ElectricAdventures playing the arcade game for a highscore challenge and decided to break out my copy on the Sega Saturn and give it a whirl myself.
Tony’s video can be found here:
The version on the Sega Saturn runs at a different aspect ratio and a different resolution than the arcade original – hence the weird line effects you
see in the gameplay.
DonPachi is a vertically-scrolling bullet hell shoot’em up video game developed by Cave and published by Atlus in 1995. It was the first game
developed by Cave, and the second on Cave’s first-generation arcade hardware (the first being Power Instinct 2). Literally translated, the title
means “leader bee”, but it is also a Japanese onomatopoeic expression associated with the sound of firing guns. It is one of the first manic
shooters.
This game received a sequel in the form of DoDonPachi. That sequel I played a lot more than this game.
Let’s see how bad I am at this.
