FreeMcBoot is something you really want to try out for the PS2. With OpenPS2Loader it is possible to also load games and applications from USB, Memory card, Ethernet SMB share. Saves wear and tear on the old optical drives.
After making this video I thought about using a PS2Slim later down the line and figured it would be best to go for SAMBA/Ethernet share network enabled loading of games. And I must say I find the loading from games of a NAS Samba share the most convenient; it is possible to have art displayed, game information displayed. PS2 AND PS1 games are supported this way. Things have come a long way.
