Running The Arcade Game Outrun2 Special Tours SDX Natively On PC (Arcade)(Teknoparrot)(wrapper)

#Teknoparrot #Arcade #wrapper

Modern arcade cabinets basically are slightly modified or just stock PCs with Nvidia cards and AMD/Intel CPUs. The games are basically Windows or Linux based and it seems to be quite possible to get those games running on Windows 10 either by providing a special environment or a run time environment for Linux binaries.

Teknoparrot makes this possible providing a wrapper for the game code that runs natively on the PC. This is just a demonstration of the possibilities.

The funny thing about tinkering with this is that you find out why a game runs at 200%, it had to do with the monitor refresh rate. It was set to 120Hz in my case resulting in the 60fps game to default to 200% speed, although the music played good, sound effects were proper, the timer and the gameplay itself was too fast and twitchy.

Setting the monitor to 60Hz made the game default to its native 60fps. And what a game. It’s pretty much perfectly emulated/executed here. Again not so much emulation but more of a wrapper around the code that is executed natively. Kudos to the developers!
