Tapuino: Play Commodore 64 games from SD Card on real hardware
I’ve picked up a fantastic little device which has allowed me to retire my C64 Datassette.
The Tapuino is Datassette emulator based around an Arduino Nano that completely replaces the tape deck and plugs into the back of the C64 in it’s place.
By adding games to an SD card, you can keep your entire collection on the card and select which game to play whenever you like, no rewinding required! It even records.
This is a complete tape deck emulator, it even emulates the loading times! Despite this it is cheap (you can even build one yourself), super convenient, reliable and saves wear & tear on your precious game collection.
The hardware and software is open source so there are many iterations of the device.
I am using Tapuino Reloaded v0.3: https://github.com/arananet/Tapuino-Reloaded
