My Ultimate64 Experience – Part I – Unboxing & Building (post 1.5 day shift edition)

#Ultimate64 #Commodore64 #FPGA

The Ultimate 64, an FPGA Commodore 64 reïmplementation created by Gideon Zweijtzer. Which results in a brand new C64 that doesn’t need to use any of the old parts… well a keyboard still is needed but I’ve heard about new replacement mechanical keyboards being built for the C64. And if you use SID chips you can severely augment the audio experience. I put in two from two deceased C64s that had severe damage to the motherboard that rendered them un-salvageable.

I got my Ultimate in the post, worked a long shift and decided not to go to bed and rest up but actually record and edit a video of my experience unboxing it and building it, turning it on. I believe Wouter (the Highlander) also got his unit. I am quite curious after the serial number on his and his experiences building and using the thing. Tonight I was playing games, watching demos and was quite pleased with how compatible the unit is. Mind you it currently only runs in PAL mode.

This video is just part I, Part II can be found here, it features MUSIC and SOUND on the unit: [ link will appear here ]

Kudos go to Gideon for providing the community with this wonderful piece of kit, also the 1541 Ultimate solid state storage solutions he builds and provides a ton of ongoing support for.
