In this video I check out one of the nicer Dreamcast racing games ‘Buggy Heat’. It’s an early Dreamcast game and when it came out it had to compete with Sega Rally 2, guess which game won that? So it might even be somewhat of a hidden gem on the Dreamcast.
Recently this new multi platform (Windows, Mac and Linux) Dreamcast Emulator ‘Redream’ came out and I figured that we might as well test out the emulator (v 1.2.6) with this game. It’s a very easy to set up – as it has a reversed engineered version of the BIOS implemented it doesn’t need any of the original Sega bios files – but it is possible to use those if you happen to have access to those. Any 4 threaded recent 64 bit CPU with a decent graphics card will work with this emulator. In fact let’s print the system requirements below:
Redream System Requirements
Operating system: Windows 7+ 64-bit, macOS 64-bit or Linux 64-bit
Processor: x86_64 compatible with AVX2 or SSE2 support
Memory: 512 MB RAM
Graphics: OpenGL 3.1 support, OpenGL 4.5 support for per-pixel polygon sorting
Over 80% of the Dreamcast’s library is able to be played from start to finish. The Free version plays the games at their intended standard resolution. When you register the emulator you can play those Dreamcast games up to 4K.
