In 1991, still early in the lifecycle of the Sega Mega Drive, a team called Sonic Software Planning were given a meagre budget and told to create a new RPG IP. The result was a commendable first effort called Shining in the Darkness.
Not a game that would light the gaming world on fire but it was to be a neat start to a franchise which excited many in years to come. Sadly the Shining series is no more but we can still look back on what was interesting times to be a Sega fan.
