The Fractured but Whole takes place after the events of South Park: The Stick of Truth, with the 21st season episode Franchise Prequel as a tie-in. The children begin a new adventure, again set in the town of South Park in the Colorado Rocky Mountains, this time becoming role-playing superheroes. However, a falling-out over Cartman’s planned film franchise splinters the boys into two groups. Those who side with Cartman join Coon and Friends, while rival group Freedom Pals, led by Mysterion, call for their own franchise, starting a civil war between the two groups.[5] The player again controls The New Kid, though now has the option of choosing the gender of The New Kid. The game starts where it left off. The New Kid enters into an intense fight, and goes to protect his friends. After the fight is over, Cartman suddenly appears dressed as the Coon, saying he travelled back in time to try and fix the future (really just stepping into a closet and entering the fight dressed), and everyone switches to playing superheroes. After getting the New Kid into a hero persona, and giving him a mundane backstory, Cartman reveals his goal of finding a lost cat to gain the cash reward. While looking for the cat, they stumble upon a plot to raise crime in South Park from a stripper. Following a lead to a storage garage depot, they find Professor Chaos being paid to keep people way from the depot, and after fighting him and interrogating him, Cartman blames the rising crime on Mitch Conner, his left hand with a face on it, which no one buys. Coon and Friends join with the Freedom Pals to take down one of the conspirators, the South Park Police Department, who wish to replace Mitch as the mayor so they will have crime to fight. Cartman also finds the missing cat, but then everyone else decides to join the Freedom Pals, as they have an extensive franchise planned that includes all of them. The next day, Cartman kidnaps the New Kid’s parents, and also destroys the Freedom Pals franchise plan. They track Cartman, who tries to convince everyone that Mitch Conner is the one behind everything, but they beat him up and tie him to a chair in their base. Cartman tells them that the New Kid’s parents are at Mephesto Genetic Engineering. Taking the guise of kids wanting a tour, Dr. Mephesto allows them inside, but the Freedom Pals discover Mitch is donating money to Mephesto to make mutated sixth graders that ambush them. The New Kid finds his parents, however, he must choose to kill one of them to get through to the next room. They near the exit, but are then attacked by Cartman and Kyle’s cousin, who has been genetically mutated. After leaving the genetics lab, the Freedom Pals realize that during the fight, the New Kid had farted them into next week, and as such Mitch has already been sworn in. They attempt to go back in time, but instead travel forward in time to Christmas day under Mitch’s rule, and are attacked by the Christmas Critters. With the help of Santa, they escape back to the beginning of the game, when they were still playing The Stick of Truth. After fighting his past self, the Freedom Pals enter Cartman’s house, and confront him about Mitch. Mitch reveals himself, and hits the New Kid in the stomach, bringing him back to his backstory, in which he entered his parents room during an intercourse and was traumatized (really mundane). However, they enter before it happens, and instead the New Kids parents tell him of how they were very good at making friends online, and were kidnapped by the government, and later had him and escaped. There powers then transferred to him. Changing the past, and stopping his parents from being kidnapped, they return to the present, and are confronted by the Freedom Pals. While trying to convince Cartman to stop pretending to be Mitch, Mitch shows up on Kyle’s hand, however, he admits it to be a trick to get Cartman to stop himself. As Mitch desperately tries to get sworn in, the Freedom Pals reveal Cartman to be behind everything to the public. Mitch chastices the New Kids choices, when his mother, on Cartman’s right hand, confronts him and they get into a fight and both die. The New Kid goes home, and his parents go upstairs to have sex. He ealks to their door, and Chaos shows up behind him, coercing him to the path of evil, and the game ends with the screen going black and Chaos laughing.
