Justifying My Collection – A Video Response To GrubGun

Grubgun asks us to justify our collections/gaming habits. So here it goes! It’s quick, only 1m;18sec.

It started in 1976
It never stopped
Is it pure materialism?
Is it hoarding?
It is a hobby I enjoy.
It shouldn’t need defending.
It shouldn’t need explaining.
Yet sadly it does, it is not always understood.
An attic filled with model trains is accepted, perhaps laughed at.
A (retro)gaming collection is often met with skepticism, there must be something seriously wrong??!??
Playing video games is considered wasting yout time, reading a book or watching a movie is somehow more acceptable/accepted.
I have been enjoying (retro)gaming for so long, I will probably never really stop.
My mom, 73, has started it all and she was playing games too back in the day and she’s in fact still gaming. I reckon I will be the same.
Oh I have other interests like music, movies, friends, outdoors, sports, literature, politics, travelling.
Having a lasting interest in video-games doesn’t necessarily exclude other worthwhile activities and/or interests.

This video also included a room tour, May 2017, albeit a tad fast.
I feel very blessed to have this room filled with a comfy couch, stereo, PC, games and TV.
For some it might only be a raspberry pi filled with games and emulation – and that’s just as valid in my eyes.
It’s all about sharing the experience and ejoying what games are all about. (For one it’s playing them, for others its hunting and collecting them). Whether you own 2600 games or 3. It’s the same to me. So there’s my JUSTIFICATION!!! 🙂
