Gaming Handhelds – my musings

Back in the day I started with a bright yellow / grey coloured Gameboy that had Tetris, Super Mario Land, R-type and Gradius on it. Together with a very cool 72-in-1 multicart that was home to 72
distinct mostly good original Gameboy games. This was my daily driver for many years and got me through a lot of night-shifts. Battery life was very good.
Many handheld gaming systems came after that. Eventually my go to hand held gaming systems are the PSVita, the New3DS and the GPD-XD android gaming handheld. What I am waiting for is a proper portable VR experience. And then something better than
today’s offerings.
The Samsung Oculus experience still has its
draw backs:
1. No standardized gaming controls
2. Galaxy phones really run very hot and it needs to shut down quite often.
3. Batteries of the Galaxy phones really drain quickly
A decidcated VR portable with as few to no wires possible. Augmented reality/immersive VR options with excellent visuals, third party support moving away from the gimmicky experiences that many of the VR games sadly still are. Now that would tickle my fancy actually.
Anyways that’s my 2 cents on gaming handhelds current and future
