Major Bug Prevents Running Rise Of The Tomb Raider On XboxOne
Lactobacillus Prime
I was looking forward to playing rise of the tomb raider on my Xbox one. I couldn’t get it to work however, I spent quite a bit of time trying to get it to work and it turned out to be a simple language bug that prevents the game from progressing beyond the first cut scene.
This is because when English is not selected as the system language the game just hangs.
This can be remedied by setting the system language to English, were it’s not that Microsoft has linked regions and system language in the settings for quite a number of regions making English a language that is not selectable in the Netherlands, but is selectable in regions like Greeze or Czech Rupublic.
When one selects a different region the the region one is living in, in order to set the language to English, access to the store and updates ceases to function.
I do hope Microsoft offers the ability to select the language independently of region. And I do hope that the publisher of this game fixes this stupid bug quickly.
I reckon lack of localization in countries like Greece, Czech republic that do allow English to be set on the XBox One actually makes for a better gaming experience.
European studies have shown that 91% of the Dutch speaks at least one other language besides their mother tongue. 75% speaks two other languages besides Dutch and 35% speaks three different languages besides Dutch.
Of those other languages:
– 90% speaks English
– 71% speaks German
– 29% speaks French
Now One would think Microsoft takes that into account and actually enables English in the Dutch region so we can actually talk to Kinect and have the XboxOne respond to voice commands. According to Microsoft the only language option in the Netherlands is Dutch.

Rise of the Tomb Raider Bug (XboxOne) has been corrected
Square Enix has brought out a path for Rise of The Tomb Raider that among other things repairs the bug that prevented it from working on Dutch consoles. The patch also contains a new ‘endurance mode’ that will become playable by the end of december.
The game that was released last November initially contained a bug rendering the game unplayable on Dutch Xbox One consoles. Now it was possible to circumvent the bug by setting the language to English but on the XboxOne that is only possible when you also set it to a different region – which actually breaks access to Microsoft’s store and updates.
Good thing it got repaired. Shame that this game will remain borked up when you want to play it off the shelf in like 15 years from now without a patch…But then again this generation’s software is not for collecting it is only for enjoying in the here and now. Disposable software in a sense.
