A long video showing some of the footage on Beaps73’s Neo Geo CD which I attempted to repair. It was mostly a chip swap job as I have little to no experience on laser based systems, and there was no service manual available at the time. I believe I narrowed the fault down to either the DSP or the small chip which looked like it could have been some kind of opamp. Ultimately I couldn’t find any information on the smaller chip, and I couldn’t source a replacement DSP. Beaps73 sold the Neo Geo CD and someone else just swapped out the CD logic board and it worked fine.

When watching this video back it amazed me how many things I would advise differently, following what I’ve learned from some great channels on YouTube. Check out this video (and channel) for really detailed overview of how CD systems (like this one) work, and why it’s not a good idea to just wildly start adjusting pots.
