Retro Special – Amstrad CPC464 Motherboard, AY Chip and Tape Belt Replacement

After several months of toying with my twin Amstrad CPC 464’s, I finally get them both fully repaired and working, back to their (almost) prime. The motherboard on one developed a rather undetectable issue, either to do with power supply or ROM, after several tests I couldn’t pin-point it, so a simple PCB replacement was done to save time. I found a stand alone motherboard for £10 on Ebay. This also gave me the parts needed to fix the other CPC, by using it’s working AY sound chip. The Spectrum plus 2 chip I initially used was not fully compatible.

Finally, a quick change-over of the datacorder belt because it was slipping. Hey presto, 2 working CPC’s for less than the cost of 1 fully working unit.
