It’s been quite a long time since I’ve done a proper lengthy run through a classic European series, hasn’t it? Time to rectify that!

The Chaos Engine pretty much had everything you wanted in a top-down shooter – souped-up futuristic visuals, sound cribbed from the nearest underground rave, a big dollop of personality and, of course, tons of action. It’s a blistering steampunk take on Gauntlet, and one of my favourite games on the Amiga. I’ve been wanting to do it since I started doing these video reviews and…well, it’s finally here!

But of course, we couldn’t just leave it there – why, we have to cover the sequel as well…which is certainly different. It possibly could have been special too, but a torturous development cycle pretty much killed it and by the time it came out, nobody cared. And lastly, the game was remade and released on Steam this year!…well, if you can call sticking shitty emulator texture smoothing effects onto a game a “remake”. So this vid ends up being kind of a mixed bag, but still…The freaking Chaos Engine. Enjoy!
